It’s back-to-school season, so let’s peer review some of the men in academia who are undertaking new research initiatives and educating the professionals of tomorrow.
Dr. Stephen Whittle is a professor of Equalities Law at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. Born in 1955, he began his transition in 1974 and later became a pioneer in trans activism and scholarship. This man stays busy and has a long list of accomplishments, including co-founding the UK’s leading transgender advocacy group —Press for Change— which lobbies for legal rights.
Dr. Platero has a PhD in Sociology and Political Science, which he leverages as a professor at Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. He has published numerous articles and books on queer identities, gender, and how they relate to public policy.
Dr. Noble is an Associate Professor at Canada’s York University, where he lectures on sexuality and gender studies. In his professional writings, including Masculinities without men?, he examines the intersection of masculinity, sexuality, and gender.
Dr. Eli Clare is a white disabled genderqueer activist, writer, and speaker. He reflects on his experiences to talk about intersections of queerness, disability, and the socio-political landscape. Dr Clare authored the book Exile and Pride: Disability, Queerness, and Liberation, which has become a classic in disability studies; it’s an exploration of societal marginalization and the interconnectedness of oppressions.
