Game Changers

Some people are just built different. Not only have these men dealt with dysphoria and criticism on a national stage, they have put their bodies through intensive training so they can be the best athletes possible. In this newsletter we will showcase some accomplishments by the top athletes from our community:

• Schuyler Bailar - Schuyler Bailar had a stellar start to his swimming career. At age 10, he competed in the Junior Olympics and ranked in the top 20 for 15-year-old breaststroke swimmers in the United States. In college, Bailar became the first openly transgender athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA Division 1 men’s team. Bailar was warmly accepted by the men's swim team, where he competed for four years.

• Chris Mosier - Chris Mosier is a groundbreaking athlete who over the course of his career, made Team USA six times and became a hall of fame triathlete, All-American duathlete, and two-time National Champion. Mosier earned a spot with the men’s Team USA sprint duathlon for the 2016 World Championship, making him the first openly trans man to join a U.S. national team.

• Mack Beggs - In high school, Mack Beggs made headlines when he became a Texas state wrestling champion. Despite controversy because he was required to compete in the girls' league, Beggs consistently advocated for himself and other trans athletes. He delayed taking hormones until the end of his career.

• Harrison Browne - Retired professional ice hockey player Harrison Browne made history as the first openly transgender player in North American professional sports. He finished his career in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) before taking hormones, and later served as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within sports.

• Patricio Manuel - Manuel is an American professional boxer who became the first transgender man to fight in a professional boxing match in the United States. He won his debut match in December 2018.
